Hong Kong (香港 Chinese Xiānggǎng, kant Yale. Unggóng Hey, Jyutping: Hoeng gong, Guangdong Heng gong, Eng Hong Kong, Fragrant Harbour '.) is a metropolis and special administrative region on the southern coast of China. Located at the mouth of the Pearl River on a peninsula and 262 islands the territory was till the 30st of June 1997 a British colony. It was contractually returned to China at the 1st July of 1997.

The Central district in the north of the island of Hong Kong is the financial and business center of the city.

The most populous district and cultural center, the Kowloon Peninsula, lies in the south of the New Territories.

In the framework developed by Deng Xiaoping doctrine of "one country, two systems", the democratic free market system of Hong Kong exists at least 50 years in addition to the authoritarian socialist system of the People's Republic of China. That leaves Hong Kong's role as one of the financial centers of Asia secured. Although this autonomy allows Hong Kong namely its own laws, customs, and to have its own currency, the government in Beijing is often mixed into domestic politics. Then the chief executive is elected by a member designated by the People's Republic of China Elections Committee.

The SAR is also an independent member of GATT, WTO, APEC, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Financial Stability Board (FSB) and associated with ESCAP. ESCAP, the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific of the United Nations (English: United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific). This is a commission of the United Nations Office for East Asia and the Pacific, based in Bangkok.
