Germany is a federal state in Central Europe.

The Federal Republic of Germany in accordance with its constitution is a republic, which is composed of the 16 German states. It is a free and democratic and social constitutional state, and it represents as a state the latest manifestation of the German nation-state.

Germany has nine European neighbors bordering the Federal Republic. Geographically Germany ist surrounded by the waters of the Baltic and North Sea in the north,  and the mountains of the Alps in the south. Germany lies in the moderate temperatures zone. With its 81.9 million inhabitants, it is one of the the most densely populated countries in the world.

Germany is a founding member of the European Union and is its most populous nation. With 16 other EU member states together it forms a monetary union, the Euro Zone. Germany is a member of the United Nations, the OECD, NATO, the G8 and the G20.
Terms of the nominal Gross Domestic Product, Germany is the largest economy in Europe and the fourth largest in the world. In 2010 it was the third largest exporting and importing nation.

According to the Human Development Index, Germany is a very high developed country.
