Guernsey is the second largest of the British Channel Islands. The bailiwick does not only include the main island of Guernsey, but the islands of Alderney, Sark, Herm, Jethou, Brecqhou, Burhou and other small islands. The island of Guernsey is a hilly area with cliffs, particularly in the South. The Channel Islands are not part of the United Kingdom nor a colony of it, but an British crown dependency. So it reports directly to the British crown. The islands are separate entities and are therefore not part of the European Union.
The islands are a good base mainly for livestock and horticulture. They are also a major tourist destination for nature and bird lovers.
